New report released – lessons from running a food hub
The South East Food Hub was a piloted food hub model which operated in the outer suburbs of Melbourne in 2014-2015. The hub sourced fresh produce and grocery items from 16 local producers and serviced 14 customer ‘buying groups’.
We have summarised our key lessons and recommendations in this report to share our experience of the South East Food Hub and to help guide others to explore, initiate and establish community food hub enterprises. While we have tried to capture and share all the key insights from the project in this document, there is a lot of fine detail and resources we would be happy to share.
This documents summarises the key learning which were taken away from the exercise, touching on a range of topic including managing the hub’s operations, dealing with wholesale customers and supplying through buying groups.
